Biodiesel production during August was about 0.4m gal higher than production in July, the government agency said.
Biodiesel production from the US Midwest region was 67% of the US total, according to EIA data.
Production came from 110 biodiesel plants with operable capacity of 2.1bn gal/year.
Producer sales of biodiesel during August included 91m gal sold as B100 -100% biodiesel - and an additional 40m gal of B100 sold in biodiesel blends with diesel fuel derived from petroleum, EIA said.
There were a total of 985m lbs of feedstocks used to produce biodiesel in August, accoridng to EIA.
Soybean oil remained the largest biodiesel feedstock during August with 510 m lbs used.
Biodiesel production has exceeded targets under the renewable fuel standard (RFS) for two consecutive years and the figures put the industry on target to once again exceed annual volume requirements, according to the National Biodiesel Board (NBB).
Biodiesel is an alternative fuel, produced from renewable resources. The most commonly used feedstocks are rapeseed, soy and palm oil.
