SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Panjin Northern Asphalt has achieved on-spec production of Group II LAN-5 base oils from its 400,000 tonne/year plant at Panjin in Liaoning province on 5 November, a company source said on Tuesday.
The company expects to be able to produce Group II LAN-8 and LAN-20 grades on 7 November.
The specifications of base oils outputs are not stable yet as it is still at the beginning stage of operations, the source said, adding that nonetheless the viscosity level is higher than expected.
Panjin Northern Asphalt named its Group II base oils outputs under the standard system which is stipulated by Sinopec.
The specifications of Group II LAN-5, LAN-8 and LAN-20 are similar to those of Group II N125, N400 and BS90 under the American Petroleum Institute (API) system, which is more commonly used internationally, a Sinopec source said.
