LONDON (ICIS)--US energy major Chevron has agreed a shale gas production sharing deal worth $10bn (€7.4bn) with the Ukraine, the Financial Times, Reuters and other media reported on Tuesday, citing Ukraine government officials.

A spokesperson for Chevron at the company's headquarters in San Ramon, California, did not return a call requesting comment.

The deal to develop shale gas reserves in two of its western regions would help make the Ukraine less dependent on imported natural gas from Russia.

In January, the Ukraine agreed a similar deal with Shell.
