HOUSTON (ICIS)--US oilfield chemicals firm Flotek Industries plans to build an oilfield chemicals facility and research centre in Oman, the company said on Thursday.

The plant will be built in a joint venture with Oman’s Tasneea Oil and Gas Technologies, Flotek said. Flotek will own 55% and Tasneea 45% of the joint venture.

Construction is expected to start in early 2014. Capacity or financial details were not disclosed.

Flotek CEO John Chisholm said that expected rapid growth of unconventional resource development in the Middle East and North Africa made the joint venture on Oman a “compelling” investment for his company.
