LONDON (ICIS)--Freight rates for shipping 5,000 tonnes of easy chemicals along the transatlantic westbound route firmed this week on higher market activity, according to sources on Friday.

Freight rates between Rotterdam and the US Gulf coast were assessed up by $5/tonne at $40-45/tonne (€30-33/tonne).

“There seems to be something better going on - some ship owners are able to fill up their vessels,” one source said.

“There’s a bit more activity with some caustic, FAME [fatty acid methyl ester], MTBE [methyl tertiary butyl ether] and specialised chemicals moving,” another source said.
