LONDON (ICIS)--BDI BioEnergy International’s earnings in the first nine months of 2013 improved to €1.6m ($2.2m) compared with a loss of €3.3m in the same period of 2012, on higher sales, the Austria-based biofuels firm said on Thursday.
Sales in the first nine months of 2013 were 38.9% higher than in the same period of 2012, lifted by a strong performance in the third quarter. Third-quarter figures, however, were not disclosed.
“In the third quarter, BDI - BioEnergy International AG increased sales substantially and obtained commissions for the construction of a new BioDiesel plant and for the extension/optimisation of existing BioDiesel plants,” it said.
“The encouraging development of the business in the third quarter led to sales growth of 38.9% in the first nine months of 2013 to €26.5m,” BDI BioEnergy added.
Earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) during the first nine months swung to €900,000, from a loss of €4.5m in the prior-year period.
“The start-up of the biggest multi-feedstock BioDiesel plant in France began in the third quarter. Locally sourced animal fats that cannot be used for human consumption and used cooking oil are the raw materials processed. The plant was officially opened in early November and will be producing about 75,000 tonnes of BioDiesel per year in future,” BDI BioEnergy said.
