LONDON (ICIS)--UK demand for white spirit, hexane and naphtha solvent is steady and prices are broadly unchanged moving from October to November, sources said on Friday.

“The solvents market is pretty flat at the moment. There’s a lot of people trying to sell white spirit so margins are really poor,” said a UK solvents distributor.

White spirit in the UK is currently valued at £0.58-0.60/litre (€0.69-0.71/litre) FD (free delivered), which is unchanged from October.

Hexane in the UK is not so widely available, according to a second distributor.

“The hexane market is not so long because of [named producer]. Demand is OK,” the distributor said.

Hexane prices are also at similar levels to October values, with the range the same as white spirit at £0.58-0.60/litre.

Naphtha solvent (C9) prices are also steady in the UK, with assessments at £0.73-0.75/tonne FD.

White spirit is used mainly in the decorative gloss paints market and the ink industry.

Hexane is used in a number of applications, namely vegetable oil extraction, adhesive manufacturing and pharmaceuticals.
