“Two years ago, we started distribution of PE locally, and today we are the largest distributor in Colombia,” said Pedro Capella, vice president of special projects at Propilco.
Capella spoke at the 2013 Polyolefins Consulting Seminar organised by the PetroChemical Consulting Alliance ahead of the 33rd annual Latin American Petrochemical Association (APLA) meeting.
“Our intention is to expand distribution to other Latin America countries such as Peru and Ecuador. Propilco’s entry into the distribution market will be strong over the next 2-3 years,” he added.
Propilco does not produce PE, only PP, with capacity of 500,000 tonnes/year. It exports around 55% of its PP production to over 20 countries worldwide, most in Latin America.
“We are talking to several players in the US for [PE] off-take agreements,” said Capella.
Propilco is a subsidiary of Colombia’s largest energy company, Ecopetrol.
The APLA conference runs 16-19 November in Cartagena, Colombia.
