APLA '13: Strong demand from Colombian personal care, cosmetics

CARTAGENA, Colombia (ICIS)--Demand for chemicals used in the personal care and cosmetics sector is strong in Colombia, a regional market player said on the sidelines of the Latin American Petrochemical Association (APLA) annual meeting on Sunday.

The market is the fifth-largest personal care and cosmetics market in South America, with sales of $6.2bn (€4.6bn) as of 2010, according to the national statistics department..

Sales are expected to reach $7.7bn by 2014 and will present a compound annual growth rate of 8.7% for 2006-2014.

Chemicals used in the formulation of personal care and cosmetics include refined glycerine, ethanolamines, propylene glycol (PG) and fatty alcohols.

The APLA conference ends on Tuesday.
