SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Philippine-based producer DFE Chemical has decided to continue running its 30,000 tonne/year polystyrene (PS) facility in Manila throughout December after securing sufficient feedstock styrene monomer (SM), a company source said on Tuesday.

“We initially needed to shut the PS plant in mid-December but do not have to now,” the source said.

The company, which imports SM, has lowered the operating rate of the PS unit in November to conserve feedstock.

DFE Chemical is the sole PS maker in the Philippines.

Other PS makers in southeast Asia include Denka and Total Petrochemical in Singapore and Petrochemicals Malaysia.
