HOUSTON (ICIS)--US acrylonitrile (ACN) exports for September were down by almost 20% from the same month a year ago, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Tuesday.

Exports decreased to 35,030 tonnes from 43,665 tonnes in September 2012.

The decline was mainly a result of fewer volumes shipped to South Korea, which imported only 325 tonnes in September compared with 15,197 tonnes during the same month last year.

Major importers of US ACN in September included Turkey with 6,767 tonnes, Mexico with 6,517 tonnes and Switzerland with 6,199 tonnes.

Month on month, US ACN exports in September fell slightly by 0.6% from 35,256 tonnes in August.

Major US producers of ACN include Ascend Performance Materials, Cornerstone and INEOS.
