HOUSTON (ICIS)--US acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) exports for September increased by 15% year on year but decreased by 6.5% month on month, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Tuesday.

September exports totalled 7,334 tonnes, up from 6,361 tonnes in the same month last year but down from 7,840 tonnes in August.

Mexico was the top destination for US ABS, receiving 2,579 tonnes. Canada imported 2,274 tonnes, while Peru received 880 tonnes.

Meanwhile, the US imported 13,359 tonnes of ABS in September, a 19% year-on-year increase from 11,255 tonnes and a 32% month-on-month hike from 10,095.

The increase was caused by a rise in imports from South Korea and Mexico. The US received 67% more ABS from South Korea at 4,863 tonnes and 27% more from Mexico at 4,356 tonnes.

Taiwan was the third largest exporter of ABS to the US, with 2,465 tonnes, in September.
