US Sep PP exports rose 2.5% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of polypropylene (PP) for September were up by 2.5% from the same month in 2012, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Tuesday.

US PP exports rose to 87,172 tonnes in September 2013 from 85,016 tonnes in 2012.

Mexico, Canada and Peru were the top destinations for US PP, together representing about 82% of exports. Exports to Mexico increased by 30%, while exports to Canada decreased. Peru imported six times as much PP from the US in September 2013 as it did in the same month of 2012.  

US PP imports rose by 8% in September to 9,677  tonnes, up from 8,960 tonnes in September 2012.

Canada, Mexico and Korea were the top exporters to the US, together representing 62% of its imports. Inports from all three countries increased.

Major North American PP producers include LyondellBasell, ExxonMobil, INEOS, Total, Formosa, Braskem Americas, Pinnacle Polymers, ConocoPhillips and Flint Hills Resources.
