N American September TiO2 exports down 3.7% year on year – ITC

HOUSTON (ICIS)--North American titanium dioxide (TiO2) exports diminished slightly in September compared with the same month one year ago, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Tuesday.

Exports fell to 53,720 tonnes in September from 55,819 tonnes in September 2012, a decline of 3.8%, reflecting continued soft but stable conditions in the seasonally weakening market.

Belgium led with 11,362 tonnes, or about 21% of total shipments. Mexico and China took 7,883 tonnes and 6,132 tonnes, respectively, to round out the top three destinations.

Import volumes rose by a similar 3.1% in September to 13,424 tonnes versus 13,018 tonnes one year ago. Month-on-month import volumes rose by almost 12% from 11,991 in August.

North American TiO2 producers include DuPont, Cristal, Kronos, Tronox and Huntsman.
