SINGAPORE(ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Chemical & Fibre Corp (FCFC) is extending the shutdown of its 550,000 tonne/year No 1 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) unit at Mailiao to end-November because of unfavourable market conditions, a company source said on Friday.
The plant was taken off line on 1 November is was originally planned to be down for two-to-three weeks, the source said.
Production cutbacks in the downstream polyester filament yarn and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle chip sectors in Taiwan caused by weak demand has curtailed requirement for PTA, the source said.
