LONDON (ICIS)--Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) imports into the EU from the rest of the world in primary forms have almost doubled year-on-year in September, according to data from statistics agency Eurostat on Friday.

In the same month, exports from the EU fell by 16% year on year, according to Eurostat.

There were several production outages at European plants in September. Lotte Chemicals’ 165,000 tonne/year UK plant in Wilton was affected by flooding damage to its steam supplier on Friday 6 September.

In addition, NEO Group reduced output at its Klaipeda, Lithuania, plant in mid-September because of an external gas supply issue.

A mechanical failure Indorama Ventures' Rotterdam 350,000 tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in the Netherlands forced the company to shut down its downstream PET units at the same site on 24-25 August until 19 September .
