US October daily ethylene production rises 0.8% from September

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US daily ethylene production in October was 0.8% higher month over month, according to data made available on Tuesday from consulting firm Jacobs Consultancy.

The firm’s Hodson Report showed US October daily ethylene production at 150.13m lb/day (68,099 tonnes/day), up from the September rate of 148.91m lb/day.

Steam cracker operating rates also increased in October, moving to 92.8% from 92.1% the month prior.

Total October ethylene production moved up to 4.65bn lb, up by about 4.0% from 4.47bn lb in September, on the higher daily production and an extra day in October.

Ethylene production increased despite spot prices hitting a 15-month low in the middle of October on long supply.

The US cracker feedslate shifted 0.9% towards heavier feeds, the report said.

Although ethane usage as a feedstock increased to 62.1% in October from 60.0% in September, usage of gas oil and naphtha gained a combined 1.0 percentage points, while propane and butane usage fell.
