This past August, nearly 400 conference attendees, members and affiliates of NACD convened in Dallas, Texas, for the association’s annual compliance and operations conference, ChemEdge.
Formerly known as OPSEM, the conference achieved a record-breaking year in both attendee and exhibitor numbers, recording the highest participation level in six years. Participation in both the Exhibit Hall and general conference has been steadily increasing these past few years. There has been an 18% rise in exhibitors since 2010, and a 25% increase in individual attendees since 2009. This year, ChemEdge boasted over 100 first-time attendees.

COMMITTED TO EXCELLENCE
Opening ChemEdge, former NACD president Chris Jahn said: “You are here this week to learn how to make your operations better. To make sure you are knowledgeable about compliance requirements and meeting your Responsible Distribution commitments. Your commitment to ‘operational excellence’ is important to ensure our membership is ready to handle challenges in the future.”
He continued with an emphasis on crisis preparation and current communication plans incorporating the new social media and response, “We have an obligation to prepare, practice, train, learn from each other and to continue to improve our operations.”
The new and improved program brought hard-hitting topics to the forefront and helped educate the membership on regulatory compliance, Responsible Distribution implementation, customer service, logistics, warehousing, strategic benchmarking and negotiating, and much more. Feedback from attendees was very enthusiastic and the sessions were packed. One participant commented on the ChemEdge mobile app NewsFeed, “I learned so much! Very informative speakers… I learned something from each.”
New to ChemEdge was a poster session in the Exhibit Hall providing case studies and new technologies in a visual format to allow attendees to bring new ideas and techniques back to their operations. Also new to the Exhibit Hall was a featured area on warehousing. NACD Chemical Handler Affiliates filled that feature area, demonstrating their warehouse capabilities to support NACD distributors and manufacturers.
