MELBOURNE (ICIS)--South Korea’s LG Chem cut the operating rate at its phenol/acetone plant in Daesan earlier this week to 70% capacity because of prevailing weak market conditions, a company source said on Wednesday.

The plant, which has a phenol nameplate capacity of 300,000 tonnes/year and an acetone nameplate capacity of 180,000 tonnes/year, was running at around 90% capacity prior to the output cut, the source said.

The producer plans to cap its Daesan plant operating rate at the reduced level in the near term, the source added.

LG Chem’s phenol/acetone plant at Yeosu, which can produce 300,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 180,000 tonnes/year of acetone, is running at full capacity, the source added.
