US October EPS imports rose by 22% year over year - ITC

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US imports of expandable polystyrene (EPS) for October were up by 22% from the same month in 2012, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Wednesday.

US EPS imports rose to 17,003 tonnes in October 2013 from 13,913  tonnes in the same month of 2012.

The Bahamas, Canada and Mexico were the top importers into the US, together accounting for 83% of imports. Imports from all three increased from October 2012 to 2013.

US EPS exports rose by 8.2% in October to 7,413 tonnes from 6,847 tonnes in 2012.

Mexico, Canada and Hong Kong were the top destinations for US exports, with Mexico accounting for 56% of all US exports.

Major North American EPS producers are BASF, Nova Chemicals, Flint Hills Resources, Styrochem, Nexkemia, Polioles and Polidesa.
