US October styrene exports, imports up from last year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US styrene exports and imports in October were up from the same time a year ago, according to data released by the International Trade Commission (ITC) on Thursday.

October 2013 styrene exports were at 170,988 tonnes, up by 21% from 141,533 tonnes in October 2013.

2013 October styrene exports were also up from 167,520 tonnes in September.

Total 2013 year-to-date styrene exports were up by 18% from 1.3m tonnes the same time a year earlier.

Mexico, China and the Netherlands were the top three destinations for US styrene.

Meanwhile, October 2013 styrene imports were at 30,214 tonnes, up by 55% from 19,468 tonnes in October 2013.

However, October styrene imports were down from 43,553 tonnes in September.

Year-to-date styrene imports were up by 30% from the time frame in 2012.

Canada remains the primary exporter of styrene to the US, with Shell Canada and Styrolution having a combined capacity in that region of just under 1m tonnes/year.
