SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korea’s Hyundai Cosmo (HC) Petrochemical does not plan to conduct any turnarounds at both its No 1 and No 2 aromatics units in Daesan in 2014, a company source said on Friday.

The No 1 aromatics unit can produce 380,000 tonnes/year of paraxylenes (PX) and 120,000 tonnes/year of benzene, while the No 2 aromatics unit is able to produce 800,000 tonnes/year of PX and 120,000 tonnes/year of benzene.

“We had scheduled turnaround this year, so next year we will skip,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the No 1 unit is running at full tilt, while the No 2 plant was shut unexpectedly on 11 December on the back of unspecified technical issues.

The company expects to have more updates on the status of its No 2 plant in the following week.
