LONDON (ICIS)--Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) produced 899,000 tonnes of petrochemical products in November, up by about 1.5% from 886,000 tonnes in the prior-year month, the state-run energy company said on Friday.

Accumulated output in the first 11 months of the year reached 10.52m tonnes, up by about 6.8% from 9.85m tonnes in the prior-year period, but down by about 7.5% from 11.37m tonnes in 2011, the company said.

In November, Pemex produced 83,000 tonnes of ethylene, up by about 1.2% from last year, and 35,000 tonnes of propylene, down by about 2.8%.

The company doubled toluene output to 12,000 tonnes, while styrene production was up by about 9.1% to 12,000 tonnes. Benzene production jumped 17% to 7,000 tonnes.

Production of high density polyethylene (HDPE) totalled 11,000 tonnes, up by 37.5%, while output of low density PE (LDPE) and linear low density PE (LLDPE) fell by about 5.6% to 17,000 tonnes, and by about 4.5% to 21,000 tonnes, respectively.

Production of ethylene oxide (EO), a raw material used for glycols and detergents, increased by about 43% to 33,000 tonnes, while production of other chemicals increased by about 9.9% to 608,000 tonnes.

Output of ammonia, a raw material for the manufacture of fertilizers, explosives and cleaning fluids, fell by about 38% to 61,000 tonnes.

Since 13 September, Pemex has been unable to provide production figures for vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) and ethylene dichloride (EDC) due to a joint venture agreement with Mexican chemicals producer Mexichem.

The project, signed off in October, is expected to boost VCM capacity at the Pajaritos petrochemical complex in the southern Mexican state of Veracruz from current levels of 200,000 tonnes/year to around 400,000 tonnes/year by September 2015.
