MELBOURNE (ICIS)--Taiwan's Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp (FCFC) plans to shut its phenol/acetone plant in Mailiao from 1 March for a scheduled maintenance, a source close to the company said on Thursday.

The plant, which comprises two lines with a combined 400,000 tonne/year phenol capacity and 250,000 tonne/year acetone capacity, is expected to undergo overhaul until mid-April, the source said.

Output loss for phenol from the maintenance shutdown is estimated at around 54,000 tonnes, while about 33,000 tonnes of acetone will be lost over the same period, the source added.

FCFC is currently running its plant at full capacity in order to build up its inventories in preparation for the turnaround, the source added.
