HOUSTON (ICIS)--Enterprise Products Partners has begun service for shippers who executed long-term agreements on its Mid-America Pipeline (MAPL) Rocky Mountain expansion project, the US midstream energy company said on Friday.

The project is designed to ship natural gas and natural gas liquid (NGL) production from basins in Utah, Colorado and Wyoming, Enterprise said.

“Several new natural gas processing plants have been constructed in the Uinta and Greater Green River basins that will benefit from the expansion,” the company added, without commenting on capacity details.

According to information on Enterprise’s website, the 7,840-mile (12,617km) MAPL transports mixed NGLs produced from natural gas processing plants in Wyoming, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico to a pipeline in west Texas.

The expansion project involved looping the existing system with 263 miles (423km) of 16in (40.6cm) diameter pipeline, as well as pump station modifications. In early 2012, shippers on the MAPL expansion exercised options to more than double their commitments to 82,500 bbl/day.
