SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Arkema is building a new organic peroxide plant at its Changshu site that will double its capacity for the chemical in China, the French producer said on Thursday.
“The new Changshu plant is due to come on stream in early 2016,” Arkema said in a statement.
The cost of the project, as well as the capacity of the new plant, was not disclosed.
Organic peroxides are widely used as polymerisation initiators in commodity thermoplastics.
Arkema operates 11 organic peroxide plants on three continents, the company said.
The new plant in China complements Arkema’s organic peroxides plant that will be built at Al Jubail in Saudi Arabia.
“These new capacities will enable us to support our customers’ strong growth in China, particularly in the growing plastics markets for the construction, packaging and automotive sectors,” Arkema global president for organic peroxides Manny Katz said in the statement.
