China sets new vehicle sales record at 22m units in 2013

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s vehicle sales for  the whole of last year grew by 13.9% to a new record of about 22m units, official industry data showed on Thursday.

Its total vehicle production in 2013 expanded by 14.8% to 22.1m units, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

In December, vehicle sales were up 17.9% year on year to  2.13m units, while production grew at a faster rate of 19.8% to 2.14m units, the CAAM data showed.

For passenger cars, sales in 2013 grew 15.7% to 17.9m units, while production jumped 16.5% to 18.1m units, according to the association.

China has been the world’s biggest car market for five consecutive years, it said.
