US Nov EPS exports fell by 7.2% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)—US exports of expandable polystyrene (EPS) for November were down by 7.2% from the same month in 2012, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Thursday.

US EPS exports fell to 5,696 tonnes in November 2013 from 6,139  tonnes in the same month of 2012.

Mexico, Canada and El Salvador were the top destinations for US exports, with Mexico accounting for 42% of all US exports.

US EPS imports fell by 1.5% in November  to 13,879 tonnes from 14,084 tonnes in 2012.

The Bahamas, Canada and Mexico were the top importers into the US, together accounting for 87% of all imports. Imports from the Bahamas and Canada fell, while imports from Mexico increased by 77% from November 2012 to November 2013.

Major North American EPS producers are BASF, Nova Chemicals, Flint Hills Resources, Styrochem, Nexkemia, Polioles and Polidesa.
