US November 2013 styrene exports up, while imports decline

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US styrene exports in November 2013 were up year on year, while imports were down, according to data released by the International Trade Commission (ITC) on Thursday.

November 2013 styrene exports were at 162,491 tonnes, up by 61% from 101,044 tonnes in November 2012.

November 2013 styrene exports were down, however, from 170,988 tonnes from October.

Total 2013 year-to-date styrene exports through November were up 21% year on year.

Mexico, Taiwan and Brazil were the top three destinations for US styrene in November.

Meanwhile, November 2013 styrene imports were at 46,080 tonnes, down by 4.4% from 48,215 tonnes in November 2012.

But 2013 year-to-date styrene imports up to November were up by 26% year on year.

Canada is the primary exporter of styrene to the US, with Shell Canada and Styrolution having a combined capacity in that region of just under 1m tonnes/year.
