US Nov butanol, 2-EH exports fall year on year − ITC

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of oxo-alcohols n-butanol (NBA) and 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) both declined year on year in November 2013, according to trade figures made available by the International Trade Commission (ITC on Thursday.

In November 2013, the US exported 9,903 tonnes of NBA, a drop of 37% from 15,814 tonnes in November 2012 and 55% from 22,239 tonnes in October 2013.

Though US NBA exports are down year on year, year-to-date total exports are higher. As of November 2013, the US had exported 202,043 tonnes of NBA for the year, up 2% from 198,527 tonnes for the same time period in 2012.

The US exported 3,485 tonnes of 2-EH during November 2013, a drop of 57% from 8,109 tonnes in November 2012 and 49% from 6,888 tonnes in October 2013.

January through November 2-EH exports from the US totalled 92,301 tonnes, an increase from 72,161 tonnes for the first 11 months of 2012.

While exports declined, imports to the US of NBA and 2-EH were up for November 2013.

In November, the US imported 992 tonnes of NBA, up 146% from 403 tonnes imported in November 2013, but down 61% from imports of 2,544 tonnes in October 2012.

For the first 11 months of 2013, the US imported 9,408 tonnes of NBA, versus imports of 4,489 tonnes reported as of November 2012.

Imports of 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) were at 2,136 tonnes for November 2013, up 68% from 1,270 tonnes in November 2012 and down 17% from 2,575 tonnes in October 2013.

Year-to-date imports of 2-EH were at 29,934 tonnes as of November 2013, up from 28,136 tonnes for the same period of 2012.
