SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Thailand’s PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) plans to start commercial production at its new 75,000 tonne/year butadiene (BD) extraction unit in February, a company source said on Tuesday.

“The plant is now under trial runs and if it goes well and the product is on-spec, we may be able to start commercial production in February,” the source said.

The company does not have downstream plants for BD. Most of the production from the new plant will cater to its domestic customers in Thailand.

BD spot prices were at $1,460-1,520/tonne CFR (cost and freight) northeast (NE) Asia on 10 January, ICIS data showed.
