HOUSTON (ICIS) -- Eastman Chemical announced on Wednesday that it is seeking a 3 cents/lb ($66/tonne) price increase for its glycol ether portfolio, effective 1 February or as contracts allow.?xml:namespace>
Eastman is seeking the price increase for ethylene glycol monobutyl ether (EB), diethylene glycol monobutyl ether (DB), propylene glycol methyl ether (PM) and propylene glycol ether acetate (PMA). The company cited elevated operating costs, particularly for raw materials and energy, as a reason for the price increase.
In December, Eastman announced a 6 cents/lb increase on EB and DB and an 8 cents/lb increase on PM and PMA, effective 1 January.
Dow announced its own 3 cents/lb price increases for glycol ethers earlier this week, also effective 1 February.
ICIS-assessed prices for glycol ethers are 86-90 cents/lb for EB, 100-102 cents/lb for DB and 112-114 cents/lb for PM and PMA.
