LONDON (ICIS)--Imports of benzene into the EU saw a drop of over 12,000 tonnes in November 2013 compared to the same period in the previous year, data from European statistics agency Eurostat showed on Tuesday.

Exports out of the EU in November 2013 saw a modest year-on-year increase of just over 1,000 tonnes.

Imports in November 2013 were also down from the previous month by almost 7,000 tonnes.

Europe was the lowest priced global region for benzene throughout November, which made the ARA (Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp) region less attractive as a destination for exported volumes from abroad.

While spot values did see a steady incline over the course of November 2013, pricing consistently trailed the US market, which continued to be the key driver of global pricing direction in the fourth quarter last year.
