HOUSTON (ICIS)--US fourth-quarter benzene production and inventories were down from the same time a year earlier, according to data available on Thursday by the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM).
Fourth-quarter 2013 benzene production was at 363m gal (1.37bn litres), down by 9% from 398m gal in the fourth quarter of 2012.
However, total 2013 benzene production was up from 2012. Total 2013 benzene production was at 1.64bn gal, up by 2% from 1.61bn gal in 2012.
Meanwhile, fourth-quarter benzene inventories in 2013 were at 75m bbl, down by 26% from 101m bbl from a year earlier.
Fourth-quarter inventories were also down by 23% from 97m bbl in the third quarter.
Major US benzene producers include ExxonMobil, Marathon, Flint Hills Resources, Shell, LyondellBasell, Philips 66 and Total – all of which were among the companies that contributed production figures included in the AFPM survey.
