HOUSTON (ICIS)--Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) on Friday said it has agreed to build four methanol carriers for charter to Methanol Holdings (Trinidad) Limited (MHTL).
The size and cost of the vessels or other details were not disclosed. MOL said the new contracts would enable the company to renew its methanol fleet by replacing older vessels with ships featuring advanced designs.
MHTL is one of the world's largest methanol producers, with 4.1m tonnes/year of capacity at its 5 plants in Trinidad plus an indirect 60% shareholding interest in the Oman Methanol (1m tonnes/year capacity) in Sohar, Oman.
Tokyo-based Mitsui has a fleet of more than 800 vessels.
