MELBOURNE (ICIS)--Taiwan's Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp (FCFC) on 1 March shut down its phenol/acetone plant in Mailiao for a turnaround as planned, a source close to the company said on Monday.

The plant, which comprises two lines with a combined 400,000 tonnes/year of phenol capacity and 250,000 tonnes/year of acetone capacity, will undergo an overhaul until mid-April.

Output loss for phenol from the shutdown is estimated at around 54,000 tonnes, while about 33,000 tonnes of acetone will be lost over the same period, the source previously said.

The producer plans to bring on stream its new phenol/acetone at Ningbo in China’s Zhejiang province in the fourth quarter of 2014, the source added.

FCFC’s phenol/acetone plant in Ningbo can produce 300,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 180,000 tonnes/year of acetone.
