DUBAI (ICIS)--Saudi International Petrochemical Co (Sipchem) has started test runs at its new cable insulation polymers plant located in Jubail, the company said on Tuesday.
“Initial start-up started on Sunday [2 March] and will continue until tests of all plant equipment [are completed],” the company said in a bourse filing.
The plant will produce cable insulation polymers, which are used for fabricating electrical cable insulation materials, it said.
“Such specialized products are considered part of the company's strategy to execute comprehensive transformation projects in addition to the existing products of the company,” it added.
The Saudi riyal (SR) 230m plant is part of the company’s third phase of development to help meet demand in Saudi Arabia and in the Middle East region, while fulfilling international demand, Sipchem said.
“The date for [the plant's] commercial operation or any other updates shall be announced on a later stage,” the company said.
Gulf Advanced Cables Insulation Co, a joint project of Sipchem and South Korea’s Hanwha Chemicals, will market the plant’s output in the Middle East and Europe.
Established in 1999, Sipchem manufactures and markets methanol, butanediol, tetrahydrofuran, acetic acid, acetic anhydride, vinyl acetate monomer, as well as carbon monoxide through its various affiliates.
