US Jan EPS exports rose by 6.1% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of expandable polystyrene (EPS) for January were up by 6.1% from the same month in 2013, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.

US EPS exports rose to 6,199 tonnes in January 2014 from 5,845 tonnes in the same month of 2013.

Mexico, Canada and Chile were the top destinations for US exports taking 72% of exports, with Mexico and Canada taking less material than in 2013 and Chile taking slightly more.

US EPS imports fell by 1% in January to 15,274 tonnes, down from 15,427 tonnes in 2013.

The Bahamas, Canada and Mexico were the top importers into the US.

Major North American EPS producers are BASF, Nova Chemicals, Flint Hills Resources, Styrochem and Nexkemia.
