HOUSTON (ICIS)--US chemical process technology firm Rennovia will work with the UK’s Johnson Matthey Davy Technologies (JM Davy) to develop and commercialise a production technology for bio-based glucaric acid and adipic acid, the companies said in a statement released late on Thursday.

Under the collaboration, Rennovia and JM Davy will work to develop and demonstrate processes based on Rennovia’s technology for the catalytic aerobic oxidation of glucose to glucaric acid, as well as the catalytic hydrogenation of glucaric acid to adipic acid.

The companies aim to eventually jointly license a technology package enabling commercial production of these chemical products, they said.

“JM Davy sees this as an opportunity to extend its bio-based process technology portfolio which has already licensed 1.5m tonnes of bio-based chemical product utilising catalytic chemical transformations”, said Antoine Bordet, managing director of JM Davy.
