MEDELLIN, Colombia (ICIS)--Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex), the state-controlled energy giant, produced 958,000 tonnes of petrochemical products in February, an increase of about 11% over 864,000 tonnes in the prior-year month, according to statistics made available by the company on Tuesday.
Output of high density polyethylene (HDPE) slipped 7.7% to 12,000 tonnes, while low density PE (LDPE) fell by 9.1% to 20,000 tonnes. Linear low density PE (LLDPE) production increased by about 38% to 22,000 tonnes, the company said.
Production of other chemicals increased by about 11% to 634,000 tonnes.
Meanwhile, output of refined products in February fell to a 14-month low of 1.31m bbl/day, the company said.
Gasoline output fell to 401,500 bbl/day from 421,700 bbl/day in the year-earlier month, while diesel production dropped to 259,600 bbl/day from 296,200 bbl/day.
Crude oil output fell to an average 2.50m bbl/day in February, the lowest level for seven months. Pemex expects production to exceed 4m bbl/day by 2025 thanks to record investments starting this year, the company said in a Twitter message on Monday.
