China's FREP to start up expanded naphtha cracker in late May

SINGAPORE(ICIS)--China’s Fujian Refining & Petrochemical Company Limited (FREP) is expected to start up its 1.1m tonne/year cracker at Fujian province in late May following a debottlenecking turnaround, a company source said on late on Thursday.

The naphtha cracker’s capacity will increase to 1.1m tonnes/year from 800,000 tonnes/year previously after the debottlenecking, according to the source said.

Debottlenecking works at the cracker begain in 2013 but the exact month and duration of the project could not be immediately identified.

The expanded plant can produce 550,000 tonne/year of propylene after the debottlenecking, the source added.

The existing 800,000 tonne /year naphtha cracker is running at 95-100% of capacity now,” the company source said.

Ethylene spot daily prices were assessed at $1,430-1,450/tonne CFR NE Asia on 16 April, according to ICIS data showed.
