MEDELLIN, Colombia (ICIS)--Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) has begun maintenance on the fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit at the El Palito refinery following the discovery of a fault in the unit’s regenerator cyclone system, the state-run producer announced on Tuesday.
Technical staff are on site to re-establish the unit’s operations, PDVSA said in a statement. No timeline was given for completion of the work.
The rest of the refinery’s units – including the atmospheric distillation and vacuum distillation units – are operating normally, the company said.
PDVSA has sufficient stocks to maintain fuel supply to the 11 states served by El Palito, it added.
The refinery, located in the state of Carabobo, has a crude processing capacity of 146,000 bbl/day, according to information on the company’s website.
The refinery’s FCC unit was restarted in January following six days of unplanned maintenance to fix a seepage of air and water in the regenerator’s starting line.
