SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Empee Industries was to invest ringgit (M$) 250m ($70.6m) to build a biodiesel plant in Malaysia by mid-2007, a senior official from Indian company said on Tuesday.
The 200,000 tonnes/year plant in Gebeng, Kuantan, would obtain its crude palm oil feedstock from a plantation group based in Sumatra, Muthu Ramasamy, the company’s financial controller, said.
He added that building the unit in Malaysia would ensure access to abundant raw materials.
The company has secured a deal to export 3,000-5,000 tonnes/month of biodiesel to a Japanese partner, he said, adding that it was in talks with a British distributor.
