LONDON (CNI)--UK-headquartered energy group BP said Tuesday it
has brought its new 250 000 tonne/year vinyl acetate monomer (VAM)
plant in Hull, northeast England onstream.
The plant began 'on spec' production within the last week, said
a BP spokesman, and output will be ramped up over the next two
months until it reaches full commercial capacity.
Once full production is reached, BP will end production at its
125 000 tonne/year VAM plant in Baglan Bay, South Wales. The Baglan
Bay plant will then be dismantled, said the spokesman.
The new Hull plant is the first to employ BP's Leap
process, which uses a fluidised bed reactor rather than the fixed
bed reactors of conventional processes.
