LONDON (ICIS news)--Solvay will convert its Rosignano chlor-alkali plant in Italy from mercury to membrane technology from 14 May and raise chlorine capacity by around 15%, a company source said on Friday.

The conversion was expected to last one week to 10 days and the plant would run at reduced rates during this period, the source added.

The programme was in response to EU legal requirements to convert all technology from mercury to membrane by the end of 2007.

Chlorine capacity at the Rosignano plant would increase to 150,000 tonnes/year from 127,000 tonnes/year.
