Ciba India’s subsidiary starts export oriented unit

NEW DELHI (ICIS news)--Ciba Specialty Chemicals (India) Limited (CSCIL) said on Tuesday that its wholly owned subsidiary Diamond Dye-Chem Limited (DDL) had commissioned an export-oriented unit (EOU) at the latter’s existing production site at Ankleshwar in Gujarat state.
The Indian rupees (Rs)700m ($17m) unit had started commercial production of colour formers and thermal developers. DDL describes itself as Asia’s largest exporter of cellulosic optical brightners. Its products find applications in textiles and detergents industry.
In March, CSCIL had put on hold implementation of its export-focused specialty effects chemicals (SEC) unit at its production complex at Santa Monica in Goa state after a demand-supply review.
CSCIL, a subsidiary of Ciba Specialty Chemicals Holdings Inc. of Switzerland, currently produces textiles chemicals, organic phosphates and phosphites, fluorescent brightening agents and phenolic anti-oxidants at this site.
CSCIL’s 51%-owned Hyderabad-based subsidiary Virchow Drugs Pvt Limited produces triclosan, an antimicrobial ingredient of toothpastes and other similar products.
