SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Mitsubishi Chemical will turnaround its 280,000 tonne/year monoethylene glycol (MEG) plant in Kashima, Japan, for about two weeks in the second half July, a company source said late on Monday.

“The plant will be shut for about two weeks between middle of July till around the end of month, and major maintenance works will be carried out,” said the source.

The plant saw reduced operations earlier this year in April which ultimately resulted in a two-week shutdown later the same month.

The source said that supply to contract customers is not expected to be affected by the July shutdown, as the company would beef up inventories before that to meet contractual obligations.

Mitsubishi is the largest MEG producer in Japan. It also owns MEG facilities in Singapore and Saudi Arabia.
