Aramco, Dow select KBR to manage Ras Tanura

SINGAPORE (ICIS news)--Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical said on Thursday that they have selected KBR as the project management contractor (PMC) for their proposed chemical complex in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia.
“This mega-project will leverage our refining assets by adding value to our feedstock to produce a diversified petrochemical slate of specialty chemicals,” Salman M Al-Aradi, Saudi Aramco’s project director for the Ras Tanura project said in a statement.
Both companies signed a memorandum of understanding for the project which will produce both basic and performance products including ethylene, propylene, aromatic and chlorine derivatives.
Initially, the project scope includes world-scale production units for polyethylene, ethylene oxide and glycol, propylene oxide and glycol, chlor-alkali, vinyl chloride monomer, polyurethane components, epoxy resins, polycarbonate, amines and glycol ethers.
The Ras Tanura integrated project is valued by the industry at a minimum of $20bn (€14.6bn).
