TORONTO (ICIS news)--German rail operator Deutsche Bahn on Wednesday made a “significantly improved” offer to union Gewerkschaft Deutscher Lokomotivfuhrer (GDL) to resolve an ongoing wage dispute that last week led to a strike, disrupting industrial and chemical shipments across Germany and Europe.

GDL head Manfred Schell said the union would review the offer on Monday.

Should GDL enter into labour talks with DB there would be no strike action during the negotiations, Schell said.

Neither GDL nor DB commented on the content of DB’s latest proposal.

DB said it was its sixth offer in the current dispute. DB chief executive Hartmut Mehdorn added: “We are prepared to immediately negotiate, anytime and at any place.”

Last week's strike is said to be the worst in DB’s history.
