CAIRO (ICIS news)--Ruwais Fertilizer Industries (Fertil) has delayed its project to expand and convert its Abu Dhabi prilled urea unit due to equipment and engineering requirements til end-2009, a company source reported late on Tuesday.
The project to expand and convert the unit from around 600,000 tonnes/year of prilled urea to around 850,000 tonnes/year of granular urea was now expected to be completed at the end of 2009, rather than the third quarter of 2009 as originally planned.
Ordering of equipment and engineering work was stated as the reason for the minor delay, the source said on the sidelines of the Arab Fertilizer Association annual conference in Cairo.
A melamine plant is under construction next to the Ruwais-based plant, which is expected on stream 2010-2011. It will use 200,000 tonnes/year of granular urea from the neighbouring unit.
This would leave Fertil around 650,000 tonnes/year of granular urea for export.
